Student Calendars

Check the appropriate semester "Dates & Deadlines" calendar to determine the following dates:

  1. opening day of registration
  2. your first day to register
Not everyone can begin registering on the first day of Regular Registration.
Your initial registration date is based on your classification (cumulative hours excluding current semester attempted hours).
  3. the last day of regular registration
  4. the first day of classes

Class Offerings

Check to see what's being offered and begin forming an idea of what you might take. Class offerings are available on Spectrum, usually one month before registration opens.

For more information, see Class Offerings.

Financial Aid

Check and accept your financial aid awards, using Spectrum Student Self Service. Go to your Account$ tab.

Advising

Most degree-seeking students must be advised before they can register. If Spectrum has no record of your being advised for the term, it will not let you register. It will block your attempt to register with the "Alternate PIN" error message; this means that you must contact your advisor or your college's advising unit about clearing you to register.

Registration Status

As your registration date approaches, check your Registration Status using Spectrum (select the Registration Status link in the Registration Tools channel). Look in particular at:

  1. Holds - You cannot register if you have any Registration holds. You must contact the office that placed the hold to determine how you can remove it. Read more about Holds.
  2. Student Status - You must be admitted for the term. If you are not, contact the appropriate Admissions Office (Undergraduate, Graduate, or Law).

Remember, you must be advised before you register if you are a degree-seeking student.

Register for Classes

Register as early as possible for the best course selection:

  1. Use Spectrum Student Self Service. Refer to the Registration Quick Guide.
  2. Print your personal class schedule after you have registered for classes. Check it for accuracy. Look especially at time, days, room, and campus location.

Also, see our full list of Student Self Service guides.

Some Related topics:

  • Academic Probation/Suspension
Regardless of your current academic status, you will be allowed to register. However, if your final grades for any term result in an academic suspension, you will be automatically withdrawn from the University before the next term’s classes begin. Your financial aid eligibility may be affected.

  • Late Registration
It is possible to register after the Regular Registration period has ended, but only for a short time. Consult the appropriate semester "Dates & Deadlines" calendar for Late Registration periods
. You will be charged a $100 late registration fee if you register during a Late Registration period.

  • Schedule Adjustments
You can make schedule adjustments online anytime after initial registration through the deadlines indicated for drop/add on the applicable "Dates & Deadlines" calendar
    .

You can make schedule adjustments after the stated deadlines, but you must follow a manual process that requires the final approval from the Dean of your college, if you are an undergraduate student, or from the Dean of the Graduate School, if you are a graduate student. Consult your advisor.

Pay Fees

Pay online: select your Account$ tab after logging into Spectrum. Or, pay in person: visit the Bursar's Office, 115 Wilder Tower.

  • Refer to the Bursar's website for fee payment deadlines and all fee-related information, including enrollment fee refunds.
  • In particular, visit the Bursar's Registration and Fee Payment Deadline page for fee payment deadlines and other important payment reminders.

Recheck Your Personal Class Schedule

View and print your schedule again just prior to the first day of classes; buildings and room numbers, especially, often need to be revised just prior to the start of classes.
